We recently wrote a blog that provided 7 tips for employee engagement. When your employees are engaged at work, they will experience greater job satisfaction and loyalty. As managers of engaged employees, you will reap the benefits of long-term retention and productivity.
Once you have implemented the 7 tips, it’s important to keep the momentum going through regular team building activities. The goal of team building is to perform activities that are fun, challenging, and have the “side effect” of building teamwork skills that will improve employee performance and productivity at the office.
Invest In Team Building
When you invest in your employees, they will, in turn, invest in their job and the company. A great way to invest in your employees is to invest time and resources into regular team building activities. Team building creates trust, mitigates conflicts, encourages communication, and increases collaboration.
Don’t force anything, though. Avoid activities that aim to bring in leadership lessons and practical takeaways. Instead, focus on things outside of the office where everyone shares an experience or works toward a common goal and you’ll see that collaboration and teamwork will happen organically.
Out of the box team building ideas:
- Go to a concert! Waterfront Wednesday’s are a great opportunity to bond over local music and food trucks. The last one for the 2017 season is September 27th.
- Have a cook-off for lunch one day and award the winner with a gift card
- Take an afternoon off for a work outing to Mega Cavern
- Volunteer at a local charity
- Host family-friendly activities and invite employees’ families to come out
- Try an Escape Louisville, which allows for some team collaboration to solve puzzles
- Take suggestions from employees and see what fun ideas they come up with
Create regular opportunities for your employees to connect and interact in meaningful ways by incorporating team building activities into the work day once a quarter, if not more. By investing in team building activities, you will create a collaborative and fun work environment. A team that works well together is more productive, successful, and happier!
